Kontender is a new variety from KWS. It has done exceptionally well in UK trials over the last three years and added to the UK Recommended list for 2012. It has an interesting combination of earliness and yield similar to its brother Kougar but with much better silage quality. Kontender is vigorous in the spring, flowers and develops cobs very early similar to Kaspian but dies back slightly more slowly creating a wider harvest window and produces 1.8 T more silage/acre. Kontender performed exceptionally well in all trials in the challenging seasons of 2011 and 2012.
