Forage Rye

Forage Rye

From a September sowing the best performing Forage Rye will produce 6 tonnes of dry matter/ha between September and May. It will produce 1 tonne more dry matter per ha than a good Italian Ryegrass by the end of March.

Early sown Rye can be grazed with sheep or young stock in the autumn/early winter period. Rye is exceptionally hardy and continues to grow through the winter, producing reliable very early spring grazing. This is normally strip grazed by cattle, or rotationally block grazed by sheep. Surplus growth can make good silage. If left through the spring, big crops of silage can be taken at the end of April.

Field Options supplies two varieties: Protector and Humbolt.
