Acker is a new variety bred originally for the AD market by Strube. It’s yield and quality also make it an attractive variety for farmers feeding cattle and sheep. Acker combines very high yield with relatively clean lifting roots. In trials dry matter yield has averaged over 5% higher than Beretta, energy yield 7% higher. Acker has very large tops, covering the ground fast, potentially protecting the crown when harvesting late and adding to the biomass or grazing available after harvest. Bolting resistance is excellent. Mildew and rust resistance is also very good. Acker is Rhizomania tolerant.
